Parlez-Moi D'Amour, Chantal Powell
Past in Present will be on show at The Art Works Galleries in Newcastle from Septmeber 4th to 30th October (launch night 3rd September at 6.30). The exhibition explores the use of vintage imagery, technique and media in contemporary art.

To Have or Have Not, Dean Melbourne
I will be showing one of my small boxes, Parlez-Moi D’Amour, there and at least two of my friends are also showing work in the same show! Dean Melbourne is showing a small panel piece entitled, “to have or have not” and Annabel De Vetten will be showing some of her retro inspired paintings, including “Houdini” and “Mrs Robinson”. Sharon Whyte who I blogged about a while back may also be showing some of her print work. Shame its so far away as it would be great for us to all get to meet up at the same time – something we have never done before.

Mrs Robinson, Annabel De Vetten
I didn’t make it to the opening but here is a picture of my box at the Subversive Correspondence exhibition showing at Willesden Green in London at the moment. It is one of the first small boxes I made quite a while ago now (using fragments of love letters, poetry, and sentimental objects) but fitted in well with the theme of the show.

The show is curated by Nottingham based visual artist and curator Diana Ali, and is billed as, ” . . . national and international artists exploring the notion of connectivity, correspondence and dialogue entailing a subverisve perspective to the theme”. It is currently on show at The Gallery at Willesden Green from now until the 2nd of September, entrance is free.

Cape from the V&A museum collection, London
The cape dates from 1895 and was designed by Auguste Champot in France. Black and green cock feathers are curled and mounted onto fabric and then lined with black silk satin. Simply stunning and just the kind of object that is great inspiration!
Been feeling the toll of not having my two art days a week while my childminder is on holiday for a while. I really want to start working with the 5ft bird cage I bought on ebay a few weeks back. Every cloud has a silver lining though – turns out the cage solves my childcare problem perfectly. .

Cork Street PV – London:

me being all proud, and one of my favourite pieces there - a painting by Will Teather

Water Cycle, Michael Douglas. This Liquid Skin, Dean Melbourne
well apart from lying on a beach somewhere suitably isolated and exotic being served icy cocktails and having sun lotion rubbed slowly into my shoulders . . . but hey its a close second!

new studio - all moved in and loving it!

Memory, 2009. Vintage sewing box, embroidered hankerchief, dried orchids, found objects

I’m in! whoo hooo!!!!

pick me! pick me!
Something I’m definitely not best at! My piece fragile was short listed for the cork street open exhibition and so today I took it down to London for the second round of judging. If it makes it through the second round then it will be in the exhibition which opens on the 6th of August. If it doesn’t then its another train ride to London to collect the unwanted piece on Sunday! They said we would get an email this evening and the final selected works posted on the website at 10pm tonight. Its 10.53. No news yet. I hate waiting . . .
