Excellent clip – he is so articulate about his work. The only thing that suprises me is that he says he dislikes having to react to a context, but most of the clip involves him explaining how the pieces interact with their setting. The Zoetrope is brilliant.
Into The Void is also the name of an excellent work by Black Sabbath.
Yea I had noticed his comment at the end saying that – maybe he’d been talked into doing the Freud museum project?
He has done some really fab works. A number of his past pieces have incorporated old found objects which have an obvious appeal to me but I also love the intensity of emotion a lot of his work has. Here are some of his previous pieces:
Thank you for introducing me to Mat Collishaw’s work I was unfamiliar with him. It’s always wonderful to run onto an artist that is not only technically savvy but has excellent ideas. It seems like a tough combination to come by at times.
This is very clever… art that works subliminally. I’ve seen similar installations at the erotic museum in Paris. The zoetrope is pretty amazing and I love the smoke projection in the looking glass.. the idea of a woman coming back to haunt Freud after falling “victim” to some of his experiments, seems fair.
