Last Wednesday 4th May, Debut Contemporary opened its doors to a wonderful group of guests for the Charity Art Auction in support of The Jennie & Jessie Gunhammar Lupus Trust. The night was a success raising over £10,000 for the great cause.

The successful bidders included some very high-profile collectors, some of which collected from the likes of Sotheby’s, some had just returned from Art Brussels, others had returned from New York, and some lived locally. All funds raised on the evening will help facilitate the first walk in clinic at the St Thomas’s Hospital, raise Lupus awareness and aid the discovery of a cure.

I was delighted not only to have my piece sell to a high-profile collector but also to buy a piece myself in the auction. I have greatly admired the work of talented fellow Debut artist Vikram Kushwah and so was so pleased to bid and win one of his stunning photographic prints – The Missing Hand, from the Ophelia series.

There are lots more photographs from the event. A selection of my favourites can be viewed here.

You can also read more about the night on the Debut Contemporary Blog. Debut are planning to make this auction a regular event under the title Art Fight Lupus. The next auction will be conducted by Sotheby’s on 3 August 2011, to be followed by Bonham’s on 2 November and Phillips de Pury on 1 February 2012.
