Insight – a site specific installation
A few months ago I created a site specific installation for a Grade II listed church building. I never got round to posting images at the time so here are a few pics. The photos of the completed work were taken by the rather amazing Angela Ward-Brown.
On either side of the church there are three sets of organ pipes. With nine pipes in each set there are a total of fifty four of these lovely original pipes. These pipes are a particularly evocative representation of the connection between the building’s past and the present use as a place of collective worship.
With Insight I wanted to create a dramatic and yet delicate installation that emphasized this connection between the worshipers of the building past and present. It was also important to me to create something that was meditative and open enough to interpretation for the viewer to make their own individual response to the artwork.
3000 meters of gold elastic cord were suspended between the pipes’ openings and the ceiling to create two golden arcs within the building.
