Late View: Guildhall Gothic
The East and West Crypts lie beneath the Guildhall Art Gallery and are the largest medieval crypts in London. Usually closed to the public they are open on the 25th October for a Victorian Gothic event to accompany the ongoing exhibition Victoriana: The Art Of Revival. The evening will include theatrical entertainment from Don’t Go Into The Cellar! theatre company, a unique interactive drawing salon with Art Macarbre, and some fun with the Singing Victorians. After witnessing the might of Victorian Strongman Sir Leopold Aleksander bending steel bars and performing other feats of strength you will be ready for a drink and some wonderful art. Upstairs, amongst the galleries spectacular permanent collection of Victorian art you relax with a cocktail from The Anthologist’s pop up bar. After that you must enjoy the free entry to this autumns major exhibition Victoriana: Art Of Revival exhibition in the Undercroft to see contemporary artists take on Victorian themes (Usual entry cost £7). Work showcased includes that of Paula Rego, Grayson Perry, Yinka Shonibare and Jack and Dinos Chapman and art ambassadors will be on hand throughout the evening to answer any questions.
